There's something about that first cup of coffee in the morning...mmmmmmmmm. Whether you are grabbing a strong takeaway coffee while you dash to work, or savouring a steaming cup in the warmth of your home, it's that treasured ritual that just somehow makes the morning a little bit easier. I am firmly in the camp of creating a moment to stop and savour my morning coffee - not that this always happens, but I'll do my best to line up my morning so that I can stop for 10 minutes and enjoy my flat white (well the first few sips at least!).
So when I was flicking through a magazine and came across a feature on hand painted cups, it instantly appealed to me, and I thought hey, this is something I could give a go. And so I did, and man am I happy with the results!
These are crazily easy to do! You just need some cups, porcelain pens, touch up tools (acetone etc) and a home oven, then you are away laughing. Or I should say - away sipping happily on your beautifully crafted original cup! And even better, the whole process can be done at home, including baking the cups to make them more durable for washing. No kilns needed here, phew!
One of the great things about this project is that depending on your style, you can hand paint cups that suit the look you want. For example, I've hand painted brand spanking new cups with modern designs, and I've also painted gorgeously vintage Crown Lynn cups to give them a new lease on life.
The designs that you can see I've painted on to the cups - herringbone, lines, arrows etc - these are so incredibly easy to do. You do need a bit of a steady hand, but you definitely don't need to be any kind of painting expert. I really think part of the charm is the rustic, hand drawn look. It's so gorgeous and appealing. So when you get the wobbles or cross over lines, this makes the look even better. How good is that?
If you are keen to give this a go, I've put together everything you need. Check out my shop here
, and you'll see I have DIY kits with cups, pens (you choose how many colours you want), and the bits and pieces to touch up your designs. Your kit will also come with a printed instruction sheet with step by step guidance, from prepping the cups to setting the paint at the end.
Hope you enjoy this as much as I have xxx
