HELLO AND WELCOME TO CLEVER POPPY!

Clever Poppy is all about giving you the chance to take time out to create something beautiful for your home, without the hassle of sorting out instructions, figuring out where to buy supplies and creative planning. I hope you enjoy seeing what we have to offer, and feel inspired and confident to give some creative DIY a go...

Easy DIY Flip Calendar

How's this for a cool little project for your home office? Even better, it's actually useful! This DIY flip calendar, made with Scotch® Expressions Washi tape, is a great way to keep organised and have a bit of fun along the way. I made my calendar in classic blacks and greys to suit an adult's office space. But as you'll see at the end of this blog, the calendar also looks fantastic in bright and fun colours.

Check out this vid on how to make the calendar, and then follow my blog steps below for more info:

Here's what you'll need:

    • Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape in your favourite designs - you can buy this from Warehouse Stationery (NZ) or Officeworks (Aus)
    • Luggage tags x 26
    • Key rings x 3 (the ones that lever open are best)
    • Scotch® scissors
    • String (I used butcher's twine)
    • A piece of dowel about 26cm long
    • A hole punch
    • Sticky numbers and alphabets (choose ones which contrast with the washi tape you've chosen). You'll need x 2 of some numbers and up to 5 of some characters. Or you can write the info on with a marker pen.

Step One:

First make the tags which will display each month. Put 12 tags aside. Take one and cover it with washi tape in nice clean lines.

Flip the tag over and fold the tape in over the edges, then hole punch the top.

Then add the characters to spell out each month on the front. Repeat for the other 11 months.

Step Two:

Now repeat the same method with another 4 tags, and number these 1-4 (you can use a different tape design).

Step Three:

Finally make the third group of tags and number them 0-9. You can use a third style of tape.

Step Four:

Stack each group of tags and thread them onto the key rings.

Cut and tie a loop with the string.

Thread the tags onto the dowel and then create a hanger with the string. To keep it more steady when you flip the date over each day, you can tie the string to each side of the dowel.

And its as easy as that! Now just hang your flip calendar somewhere handy, and flip the date each day to keep on track.

I hope you enjoyed this project, and I'd love to see pics if you make one of your own!

What a great idea I will most certainly use this as a craft for the junior book clubs as I know the children will really enjoy making these.
